Bennett Climbs Off the Canvas to KO Armah

Newcastle Panthers - 1/6/2012 - A large & vocal crowd attended the venue to witness their hometown hero dig deep and triumph last night.
In a battle for the WBO Interim Oriental & the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Light Welterweight Titles, Novacastrian Chad “Hollywood” Bennett took on Ghanian James Armah (17-1).
Armah received an eight count early in the first round.after a flash knockdown but recovered quickly to finish an otherwise even round. The African pick up the pace in the second round. He continued this into round three dropping Bennett twice. The local boy rallied in the forth for his best round of the fight on the back of a very parochial home crowd. 
The fight continued as a tit for tat, action packed tug-of-war. Armah was ahead on the cards at the end of round seven but couldn’t make it through the 8th round with referee Steve Hughes waving the bout off at the 50sec mark.
Pal Vella
The main event was preceded by  any equally exciting undercard comprising of some up and coming local talent.
Paul Vella, a two time ABL Australian Champion in the amateurs made his professional debut against a more experienced Jayson Mac Gura at light welterweight. In a busy fight, Vella’s persistent pressure finally got the better of his opponent 37sec into the forth. 
A welterweight contest between Will Sands & Roy Hourn was next and the boys didn’t disappoint. Sands was edging out his taller opponent in the first three rounds. He was hurt by Hourn early in the final round and had to dig deep to survive. Sands won a unanimous decision.

123kg Bobby “Two Guns” Tuimaualuga heavyweight made short work of Moses Havea. The fight was over in 37sec.
